Charcoal Submission/Pitch General Guidelines
Submissions and pitches for Charcoal Magazine's online catalogue must come from and/or center BIPOC storytellers, creatives, artist, and people of any kinds.
Charcoal submissions/pitches are intended for freelance storytellers and creatives can be in relation to an art form or practice, hobbies or projects, or stories of general livelihoods to be considered. This includes fashion, music, dance, art, lifestyle, subcultures, live experiences, reflective narratives, poetry, and anything more.

Please read the additional guidelines below carefully:
Catalogue Submissions
Want to submit a story (written or photo) as an official contributor, and have your work published on Charcoal? Submit work associated with one of our catalogue genres today! Submissions are reviewed on a rolling basis.

BIPOC writers, creatives, and storytellers of all kind to submit towards our online catalogue to be published.

 

Utilize our platform to tell stories with your own voices. Please fill out the form below and we will be in contact with you. See below for more info:

  • Anonymous submissions are accepted.

  • You can submit one body of work at a time to Charcoal via our form. If you would like to be consider for multiple/additional works, please refill out the form.

  • Submit all images in JPEG or PNG format; submit written submissions as Google Doc/Word files. Please have your files collected into a folder via an online service and label the image you would like to have as the preview image of your piece as "Header - [file name]" for ease in publishing for our editors. 

  • Submissions are reviewed every 2-7 business days. We will contact you if we are publishing your submission and provide further details.

Catalogue Pitches
Want to pitch a story for Charcoal's writers to craft? Submit a pitch surrounding a subject, topic, product, etc. Pitches are reviewed on a rolling basis.

Utilize our writers to craft and amplify the stories you want to see. Please fill out the form below and we will be in contact with you. See below for more info:

  • A strong pitch address the following: what is the subject of the story, what is the newsworthiness of the story, and what sources can help support the story?

  • Pitches will be thoroughly reviewed and vetted by editors before being pitched to writers. You will be notified if someone picks up your pitch.

  • You can pitch one at a time to Charcoal via our form. If you would like to be consider for multiple/additional pitches, please refill out the form.

  • If you are pitching a client your present, please submit through this form prior to emailing directly. We will be sure to review your pitch thoroughly.
