The Masks We Wear - Sum Yue Guan

When I create self portraits, I focus on identity: my influences, history, aesthetic, likes, dislike - all aspects about me as a person. Most of these portraits are more abstract depictions of me. I enjoy playing with colors, so for this first portrait, I wanted to explore creating a portrait with nonhuman colors.

My interior portrait is an antithesis somewhat, using my face's colors but depicting myself as my ideal room.

The last two portraits are mental maps, abstract illustrations depicting my fascination with graphic elements of tattoos, renaissance techniques I incorporate in paintings, and eastern motifs and design aspects I like to infuse into my work.
