Apply for Staff

The future begins with us–apply for Charcoal as we ring in our latest era of storytelling.

PLEASE READ THE INFORMATION BELOW:

  1. Applications to apply for our SS'23 staff are open until Wednesday, January 18th, 2023 at 11:59PM EST

  2. Decisions are rolling, throughout late January, so the sooner you apply the better!

  3. Applying for Charcoal staff can be competitive, so please keep in mind that our decision is not reflective of your content of character as a creative.

  4. Feel free to apply for 1-4 positions for consideration, but we typically only offer 1-2 positions upon acceptance. Please do not apply for over 4 positions.

  5. Applications that do not follow instructions will not be considered, so be sure to read everything thoroughly. 

  6. Charcoal is a student-run multimedia group consisting of Boston University students. These are not paid positions.

Editor-at-Large

The Editor at-Large explores & pursues independent, non-conventional projects (art galleries, performances, panels, etc.) for Charcoal through research and exploration.

 

While they work independently of the publication’s editorial sphere, they look into projects, relationships, and opportunities that coincide with the continued values of the publication at large.

One previous season on Charcoal's staff is preferred but not required.

Editorial

Hair Stylists

Hair stylists work directly with the Fashion Editors in styling hair for a variety of print Charcoal productions and other projects.

 

Hair stylists are expected to attend photo/video shoots they are assigned to, as well as any pre-shoot development, preparation, and styling meetings.

Fashion Stylists

Fashion stylists work directly with the Fashion Editors in styling outfits for a variety of print Charcoal productions and other projects.

Web Designers

Web designers craft and update a variety of pages on Charcoal's website through the lens of Charcoal's brand interlaced with an intentional grasp of UX/UI. This can consist of updating the "Issue" or "Film" content along with different featured work being showcased online.

 

Web designers work closely with videographers to embed uploaded film projects online, with the guidance of the Media Director and Media Manager.

 

Note: No previous coding experience is required for this position
