Applications for the 2019-2020 staff will be open until September 21, 2019 at 11:59 p.m. While we will accept applications on a rolling basis throughout the year, applications submitted on or before the deadline will be given priority.
Feel free to apply to as many roles as you like, but be aware that we will only accept you for one position. Applications that do not follow instructions will not be considered, so be sure to read everything thoroughly.

THE FIRST ROUND OF APPLICATIONS FOR FALL 2019 ARE CLOSED AND UNDER REVIEW.
Responsibilities: No experience required! Models must be willing to be photographed and subsequently featured in print and on our website + social media.
Commitment: Around 5 hours on the day of the shoot, plus 2–3 hours the day before for fitting.
To apply, email email@example.com with the following information: first and last name, graduation year, major, availability and time commitments on weekends (Friday–Sunday), and portfolio of 3–5 appropriate images of yourself (instagram, Google Drive, Dropbox, etc.). The images may include candids.
Responsibilities: Pitching and writing content that goes online and in print for Charcoal. You will be expected to generate 3–5 stories for online editorial. Top stories will be selected and published in the print edition. Stories range from interviews to community events, profiles, personal narratives, etc.
Commitment: Bi-weekly meetings for the entire semester to plan articles and edit. Our goal is for you to post every other week for online editorial with the possibility of contributing to the print magazine as well.
Responsibilities: Working alongside the editor-in-chief to oversee staff, suggest ideas, assign articles, troubleshoot problems, and keep the staff on schedule.
Commitment: Weekly meetings for the entire semester to plan stories and edit.
Responsibilities: Creating promotional materials for social media and print, and working with the Creative Director to layout the print magazine. You will be expected to meet production deadlines and be present at creative meetings to plan and design the magazine.
Commitment: Occasional meetings with the Creative Directors and Editors.
Responsibilities: Updating and maintaining our website. Charcoal Magazine uses Wix and 1and1 to host our website. Familiarity with these applications is preferred but not required. This position does not require much coding, but allows the opportunity to pitch ideas for microsites that you may code and develop.
Commitment: Occasional meetings with Executive and Creative Directors. Most work will be done remotely.
Responsibilities: Creating all video content from start to finish. You will be expected to create 2–3, short 3–5 minute videos throughout the semester, the content of which will be determined beforehand. You will work with the Creative Director to ensure all content aligns with Charcoal's aesthetic and pitch new ideas.
Commitment: Occasional meeting with Creative Editors and Executive Editor.
Responsibilities: Working alongside the Managing Editor to plan and execute photoshoots and will remain on-hand on shoot days to ensure everything runs smoothly.
Commitment: Attending all photoshoots assigned to you by the Managing Editor.
Responsibilities: Including but not limited to documenting behind-the-scenes content, photographing creative shoots, generating online content to accompany written articles, pitch your own ideas, and more. You will be expected to meet production deadlines and be present at creative meetings.
Commitment: Occasional meetings with the creative team. You must be present at all shoots assigned by the Managing Editor.
